US political culture is at a point of high polarity. Yet, this rampant knee-jerk us-versus-them attitude has not led to more solidarity within each camp.
The lefties are worried that they’re not getting any lefty programs enacted despite their total control of the Federal government. The righties are fighting over which faction has the best chance leading an overthrow of the lefty hegemony.
Steve Sailer has a plan for the righties. It strikes me as brilliant:
My suggestion: the only long-term option for the Republicans, the de facto white party, is to rebrand the Democrats as the de facto black party.
Not the Minority Party or Cool, Hip, Multicultural Party—but the Black Party. Go with the flow of the fundamental Manichaeism of American thought: Black versus White.
Sure, it’s kind of retarded, but Americans, especially American intellectuals and pundits, aren’t good at thinking in terms of shades of brown. You can’t beat it, so use it.
Hispanics and Asians certainly will never be terribly happy with the idea of being junior partners inthe white party. (Indeed, lots of white people have an allergy to belonging to the white party.) Hence, the alternative must be framed that if Hispanics and Asians don’t want to be junior partners in the white party, they get be junior partners in the black party.
It’s ju-jitsu. Flow with your opponent’s strength. Let him go too far, and when he’s out of position and off balance, pin him to the ground.
Since Sailer recognizes our underlying cultural attitudes as “retarded”, this is a pragmatic recommendation, not a principled one. It limits Asian and Hispanic participation in our governing process for perhaps another generation.
I prefer full engagement. But if the Sailer Strategy is employed by the liberty-loving faction of the right, being political will be less important than being decent, fair and prosperous. The end may justify the means.
