The math professor who solved the mystery of A Hard Day’s Night is featured in another video story. This time, Jason Brown has used mathematical analysis to write his own Beatles tune:
Perhaps what we think of as musical genius is an unconscious recognition of the patterns the professor identifies. Applying those patterns to a new composition does create a Beatles-sounding song. If music is math, then it seems a computer could create original works which humans find pleasant or even brilliant.
Would the ability to make beautiful original music imply that a computing machine has attained an element of humanity?
